Which color is right for you?
White noise spreads energy evenly across all frequencies — the classic "shhh" that masks speech and sharp sounds. Pink noise lowers the high frequencies, sounding like steady rainfall; studies of pink noise during sleep have found deeper slow-wave sleep and better memory consolidation (Zhou 2012, J Theor Biol; Papalambros 2017). Brown noise goes deeper still — a low rumble like a plane cabin or heavy surf, and many people find it the least stimulating of the three.
The mechanism is simple: a steady sound floor raises your hearing threshold, so a slamming door or a flushing toilet no longer punches through and yanks you toward wakefulness. Keep the volume moderate — if it feels loud with your eyes closed, it is likely interfering with sleep stages rather than helping. Studies suggest around 40–50 dB is a sensible target.

Frequently asked questions
Is it safe to sleep with white noise all night?
For most people, yes, at a moderate volume. Keep it below conversational level, and if you use it nightly, your brain will treat it as a strong sleep cue — which is exactly what you want on a noisy street.
White, pink or brown — which helps most?
Evidence is slightly stronger for pink noise and deep-sleep enhancement, but the best choice is the one you find least noticeable. Test all three at low volume; brown noise suits bass-friendly ears, white masks voices best.
Can white noise help babies sleep?
It can mask household noise, but keep the device across the room, under 50 dB, and never inside the crib — infant ears are more sensitive. Continuous loud machine noise near a baby's head is not recommended.
Can I download the nature sounds as MP3?
Yes — every nature sound loop (rain, ocean waves, campfire, fan, forest, stream, night train and womb heartbeat) has a free MP3 download link right under its card. Each file is a 60-second seamless loop under 1 MB, so you can use it offline on any device, royalty-free.
Disclaimer: Listen at a moderate volume. If you experience ringing in your ears, lower the volume or take a break.
